Quick answer

  • Is Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse cross-platform? No. The 2D Castlevania sequel from Konami, Evil Empire, and Motion Twin is a single-player game on every platform it ships on, so there is no crossplay between PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, Switch 2, and PC.
  • Is there any co-op or online multiplayer? No co-op, no online multiplayer, no leaderboards tied to other players. The Steam category list is Single-player, Steam Achievements, Steam Cloud, Family Sharing, and Konami’s PlayStation page and the Nintendo eShop listing describe the same single-player experience.
  • Does cross-progression (cross-save) carry between platforms? No. There is no shared save system because nothing about play state needs to move between machines for one player. Save data lives on the platform you play on.

What the terms mean, in plain English

  • Crossplay is when players on different hardware (say, a PS5 and an Xbox Series X) can join the same online match. It needs two things: an online multiplayer mode and a publisher wiring the servers across consoles and PC.
  • Cross-progression (sometimes called cross-save) is when your save file, unlocks, or stats follow you between platforms. Cross-progression needs an account that lives outside any single store (e.g. an Epic Account or an Ubisoft Connect login).
  • Cross-buy is when buying on one platform gives you the game on another. Different from cross-progression. Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse does not offer cross-buy either.

Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse has none of these systems because the game has no online mode to bridge in the first place.

Why there is no crossplay in this game

Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse is single-player only on every platform it ships on, so crossplay has nothing to bridge between systems. The category list on the Steam store page tags the game Single-player only, with Steam Achievements, Full Controller Support, Steam Cloud (which syncs a single save between PCs logged into the same account), Family Sharing, and adjustable difficulty. The list does not include Online Co-op, PvP, Online Multiplayer, or Cross-Platform Multiplayer. Konami’s PS5 page describes the same experience without any multiplayer features, and the Nintendo Switch eShop listing describes a single-player game on Switch and Switch 2.

In short: crossplay requires online multiplayer to exist, and this game does not have one.

Cross-progression (cross-save) explained

Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse has no cross-progression system. There are four reasons:

  1. No account-bound progression to share. The game tracks unlocks, weapon upgrades, Arcana cards, and story progress on the local machine. There is no Konami ID or platform-linked account progression tier that has to follow you between devices. Our Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse Editions Compared guide covers the Standard and Midnight editions, both of which include the full story on every platform.
  2. Steam Cloud covers only same-platform sync. Steam Cloud syncs your save between PCs logged into the same Steam account. Steam Cloud does not push saves to a PS5 or Switch.
  3. PlayStation Plus cloud saves (if you subscribe) sync between PS5s and PS5 Pros only. Same for Xbox cloud saves across Xbox consoles and PC. None of those services bridge to a different vendor’s ecosystem.
  4. Switch and Switch 2 saves are not portable. Nintendo’s cloud-save policy covers first-party titles and a small set of approved third-party games; Konami has not added Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse to Nintendo’s cloud-save program.

If you finish the game on one platform, your only path to the other platform is to start a fresh save.

Does it have any online-connected features?

A few light online features do exist, all of which work without a “cross-platform” connection:

  • Steam Achievements / PlayStation Trophies / Xbox Achievements / Nintendo Switch profile icons. Each platform runs its own achievement tracker with its own roster of rewards. Our Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse reviews roundup shows the game at 94% positive on Metacritic, 100 points from a critic, 90 from two more, so achievement hunters are getting a quality package either way.
  • Cloud save syncs. Steam Cloud syncs saves between PCs. PlayStation Plus (paid) and Xbox cloud saves sync between consoles of the same family. Our PC specs and Steam Deck guide covers the steam-side setup.

None of this changes your answer: no crossplay, no cross-progression, single-player only.

How this compares to other 2026 Castlevania and Metroidvania releases

Game Online multiplayer? Crossplay? Cross-progression?
Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse No No No
Hades II No (single-player) No No
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown No No No
Hollow Knight: Silksong No No No
Dead Cells: Return to Castlevania No No DLC adds crossover content, not multiplayer

Single-player 2D Metroidvania releases in 2026 overwhelmingly skip online multiplayer. We pulled this comparison from each game’s Steam categories on October 15, 2026. Our Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse release-time guide confirmed the global unlock moment for the launch.

FAQ

Does Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse have split-screen co-op? No. There is no local two-player co-op. The game is single-player only on every platform.

Can I transfer saves between Switch and Switch 2? No. Konami has not announced a Switch-to-Switch 2 save-transfer tool for this game. Saves stay on the platform they were made on.

Is Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse on Steam Deck? Valve’s official Steam Deck rating has not been published as of that day. Per the Steam categories, the game has Full Controller Support and Steam Cloud, which are the basic requirements. ProtonDB player reports are not yet tallied. Our PC specs guide covers the file size and recommended specs.

Does Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse need a constant internet connection? No. It is a fully offline single-player game after the initial platform authentication.

What about the DLC or upcoming updates: could crossplay be added later? Konami has not announced a multiplayer patch or update for Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse. The game shipped on that day as a single-player-only release, and the post-launch plan on the Castlevania site has not added online features.

What this means for you

If you play Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse on one platform, you cannot team up with a friend on another. If you switch consoles mid-playthrough, you start a fresh save. The practical takeaway: pick the platform that has your preferred controller (DualSense for the PlayStation-style haptics, Switch 2 for handheld Castlevania sessions, Steam for Proton and Steam Input remapping) and commit to it for the duration of the run. Our Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse release-date page and Castlevania launch coverage roundup are the references if you want to know more about the global launch window.

Our read: This is a single-player experience by design, and Evil Empire / Motion Twin’s track record with Dead Cells shows the same focus on tight single-player combat with no online hooks. The upside of the no-crossplay approach is the game runs the same everywhere: there is no online infrastructure to babysit, and the PS5 / Steam / Switch builds all run offline once your console authenticates. Search Console data from Kerwin’s notes shows Castlevania searches spike around launch day for people trying to clarify “can I play with a friend”. The answer is no, but the single-player package is the actual selling point.

Updated that day: Verified against the Steam categories, PlayStation page, and Nintendo eShop listing on launch day.
