EA Sports FC 27 Adds Ted Lasso and AFC Richmond Women, the Lady Greyhounds’ Series Debut

Ted Lasso is back on the touchline in EA Sports FC 27. Electronic Arts announced today that it has renewed its partnership with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. This time the crossover is built around AFC Richmond Women, who are playable in an EA football game for the first time.

The Apple TV+ comedy’s fictional club first joined EA’s football series in FIFA 23 in 2022, when Ted Lasso and the AFC Richmond men’s side were added as a surprise.

What you can do with Richmond in FC 27

According to EA, the Lady Greyhounds sit in the Women’s Rest of World league. Here’s where they show up:

• Kick Off, Career and Online Seasons: AFC Richmond Women are playable in all three modes.
• Nelson Road returns: the club’s home ground, known to fans as the Dog Track, is back as an in-game stadium.
• Manager Career as Ted: you can take charge of the women’s team as Ted Lasso himself. EA says this goes deeper than before, with social media storylines, cutscenes, touchline interactions and themed Challenges.
• Football Ultimate Team: Richmond-themed Objectives reward kits, stadium cosmetics and manager items. They also count toward Season Progress. Ultimate Team gets the club’s look and rewards, not the squad itself.

“Ted Lasso celebrates the power of football to bring people together, and that’s exactly what FC 27 is built for,” said Jeff Sharma, VP of Brand for EA Sports FC. He called Richmond “the perfect club to welcome” players into the game’s different modes. Abbie Hern, who plays one of the Lady Greyhounds, said fans have “embraced Richmond as more than just a fictional club.” She called playing as the women’s team in FC 27 “a wonderful next chapter.”

Our read: This is a smart way to bring the license back. Bringing back the same men’s squad would have been a rerun. Making the women’s side the star gives Career Mode players something new: Ted in a fresh dugout, with his own cutscenes and story beats. It also ties a big-name license to the women’s game, which EA has been pushing harder across the series. The thing to watch is how deep that Career integration really goes. If it’s more than a few cutscenes, it could be the most fun way to play Career this year.

EA Sports FC 27 is out now on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. To try the Lady Greyhounds, look in the Women’s Rest of World league in Kick Off, or start a new Manager Career to take over as Ted.
