Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launches on Friday, October 23, 2026 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2, all on the same day. Activision confirmed the simultaneous release, which makes it the first Call of Duty on a Nintendo console since Ghosts on Wii U in 2013.
It’s also the first mainline Call of Duty to skip PS4 and Xbox One entirely. If you’re still on last-gen hardware, this is the year you’re left out.
Digital pre-orders unlock the campaign early, starting October 16, and the extraction mode DMZ follows on October 20, according to Xbox Wire. DMZ is Call of Duty’s open-map extraction mode: you loot, take on objectives and try to get out alive. Physical copies don’t include early access.
Crossplay covers all four platforms, and your progress follows your Activision ID, so weapon levels and unlocks carry between consoles and PC. You still need to buy the game on each platform you play on. The Switch 2 version also supports optional Joy-Con 2 mouse controls.
Our read: from our analysis of the editions, the $69.99 Digital Standard is the best fit for most players, since it gets the same early access as the pricier Vault Edition. Our pre-order guide breaks down every edition, and the Modern Warfare 4 hub collects every update, including our DMZ early access story.
Correction (October 9, 2026): We originally said the Switch 2 version's launch timing was unclear; Activision has confirmed it launches the same day, October 23.
