Outward 2 arrives via Early Access on February 8, 2027, developer Nine Dots Studio announced this week. The sequel to the open-world survival RPG will land on Steam, the Epic Games Store, and GOG on the same day. A new announcement trailer arrived alongside the news.

The first Outward, also by Nine Dots and published by Nine Dots Publishing, built a following for its punishing take on the open-world RPG. There were no mounts, no fast travel. Hunger and thirst were real threats, and full online and split-screen co-op were there from the start. Outward 2 keeps that formula and adds a deeper weapon and armor system. Magic is built around sigil and runic combinations. Three starting scenarios span different regions of Aurai: the northern mountains of Tramontane, the underground city of Haboob, and Simeon’s Bastion.

The game supports online and split-screen co-op for the full campaign. There is drop-in and drop-out multiplayer and no built-in matchmaking. Nine Dots points players to its Discord to find groups. Hardcore mode is the developer’s permadeath option: it returns with a 20% chance per defeat of deleting the save file, according to the developer’s Steam listing.

The Outward 2 Steam page went live with the announcement. An open beta trailer was released in June via the developer’s YouTube channel, with players recruited through the developer’s Discord. The Feb 8, 2027 window now sits on the Pixel Herald release calendar.

Unique insight: the Feb 8 EA window is a notable commitment from a developer now self-publishing the sequel through its own Nine Dots Publishing imprint. The early 2027 slot puts the game ahead of several open-world RPG competitors who are still in pre-launch trailers.

Our read: fans of the original’s specific brand of punishing survival-RPG will want to mark the date. The self-published model is a quiet bet on the same audience that funded the first game.
